Who We Are

The Somaliland Disability and Handicap Organization (SDHO) is a national, non-profit, disability-led organization established in 2018 to promote the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities across Somaliland. SDHO was founded in response to the growing need for stronger advocacy, equal opportunities, and inclusive development that ensures persons with disabilities are recognized as active contributors to society and are able to participate fully in all aspects of national development.

Since its establishment, SDHO has become a trusted national organization working to advance disability inclusion through evidence-based advocacy, community empowerment, and strategic partnerships. The organization collaborates closely with government institutions, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), civil society organizations, local communities, United Nations agencies, and development partners to design and implement inclusive programmes that address the diverse needs of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable populations.

SDHO’s work spans a broad range of development and humanitarian sectors, including inclusive education, disability-inclusive healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, humanitarian response, gender equality, youth empowerment, climate resilience, governance, and policy advocacy. Through these integrated programmes, SDHO seeks to remove social, economic, and environmental barriers that limit the participation and well-being of persons with disabilities.

Guided by the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDHO advocates for equal rights, accessibility, and meaningful participation in decision-making at all levels.
